Source: The Press-Enterprise, Riverside, Calif.迷你倉新蒲崗Sept. 04--After launching a prosperous packaging business seven years ago, a Temecula Valley couple has another startup in the bag.In fact, their newest online company sells bags -- as well as computer sleeves, backpacks and totes --customized with separate padded and protective compartments for electronic paraphernalia.Globe trotters Julie and Jean-Luc Annet wearied of wasting time in airport lines as they fumbled with their laptops, tablets, smartphones and other high-tech gizmos. They discovered a missing niche in the luggage market: affordable, durable products, designed and organized to expedite security clearance. So the Annets invested $1.5 million inventing their own line, called ECBC (Evolve Cases and Bags of California), ranging from $29.99 totes to $399.99 garment bags sold at EC-BC.com via Amazon. The rolling luggage even comes with a battery back-up pack compatible with most devices to spare travelers from hunting for an airport plug. There's also a FastPass system to let travelers glide quicker through security. That is a Traffic Safety Administration-compliant front zippered flap for all electronic gear. When unzipped, it lies down flat through security scanners while keeping the gizmos securely housed into the high-density foam compartments"It was a leap of faith," Julie Annet said of the venture she and her husband started in August 2012. "We have a ton of inventory," she said during an interview at their Murrieta headquarters for both companies. Annet, 43, gestured at stacks of boxes in the warehouse. "Now all we need are purchase orders."She and Jean-Luc, 51, are still pumping money into EC-BC in hopes of breaking even after at least two years of operation. "Building a new brand is difficult," Julie said. "We're gaining momentum on Amazon, though."Testimonials are beginning to trickle in on their website,.ec-bc.com. Wrote Brad Denbo, owner of ExceliNet Computer Services in Murrieta: "I've never had another messenger-style bag last me more than six months. The zippers or the strap always breaks on me. This one has been great for the last six months and shows no sign of wear so far. Thanks."Although close to 90 percent of startups puncture the dreams and ambitions of entrepreneurs and fail, the Annets have tasted success with their first startup, a custom packaging company that grossed $8 million last year. The Belgian-born Jean-Luc and the Nebraskan-born Julie met in Vegas where she worked in real estate and he was in sales. They married and moved to the Temecula Valley to be closer to Jean-Luc's job with the Southern California-based packaging company. But when Jean-Luc wasn't paid for fi迷你倉出租e months, the Annets were forced to dip into their savings to survive."We always wanted to be entrepreneurs," Julie recalls. (Jean-Luc was in China on business and unavailable for an interview.) "We decided to get a loan, take a chance and roll the dice."It was more than luck, however, that has made their packaging business a wrap. The Annets launched Global Link Sourcing in 2006 after signing on former clients with whom Jean-Luc had built a rapport. In this highly specialized market, the Annets orchestrate the process of turning out stylish, one-of-a-kind package components. As troubleshooters, they oversee everything from concept to delivery. Now with more than 40 customers on board, the Annets work with mostly with manufacturers in Asia, India and Costa Rica."We aren't talking about brown boxes with peanuts and bubble wrap," Julie said of the innovative metal tins, printed paper folding cartons and clear and plastic containers they've helped design. Bound by confidentiality agreements, the Annets aren't allowed to disclose their customers, but said that the company expects revenues to top $9 million by the end of 2013. "Jean-Luc works, lives and breathes customer service," Julie said.Global, which employs six people, is headquartered at 41690 Corporate Center. the ideal location, the Annets figured, to start a second company. "We wanted to own and control the products," Julie said. "We also saw a lot of gaps in the functionality and affordability of bags for the modern traveler and students. Two years ago the Annets contracted with Dan Curtiss, a Boulder-based industrial designer for many leading baggage companies, to develop a reasonably priced, high-quality line for them. "We wanted products you don't have to replace after 10 trips," Julie said. The bags are manufactured in Vietnam from a nearly indestructible fabric that's made in Korea. After a $30,000 setback -- the Annets were forced to change the company's original name, Evolve, after an industry luggage giant threatened legal action -- ECBC was off and rolling into the hands of customers.Ryan Garguilo, a trip-planner and founder of travel blog, Pause the Moment, wrote: "The ECBC Javelin is hands down the best daypack I've ever traveled with..."The Annets are confident that their brand will gain recognition and traction. "We know that more online purchasing is the trend," Julie said. "We're taking it step by step with ECBC, one rung at a time."Follow Laurie Lucas on Twitter @Laurielucas and check her blog on pe.com/businessCopyright: ___ (c)2013 The Press-Enterprise (Riverside, Calif.) Canfield motorists face multiple road projects
Source: Vindicator, Youngstown, OhioSept.文件倉 05--CANFIELD -- Canfield motorists will have to deal with some possible traffic delays with multiple new road projects beginning at the same time.Phase two of the North Broad Street safety upgrade will begin Monday, and includes the widening of North Broad Street from Skyline Drive up to Dartmouth Drive, adding a common left turn lane, curbing, sidewalks and street lamps.Already started is an Ohio Department of Transportation road-resurfacing project on U.S. Route 224 from the Village Green to Talsman Drive. Both projects should be complete by late October. The North Broad Street safety upgrade "has been the largest undertaking in the last three or four years," said Joe Warino, Canfield city manager. One benefit to motorists in the area will be the opening of the Interstate 680 northbound ramp, to occur Friday or sometime over the weekend, according to ODOT.The North Broad Street safety upgrade began as a way to reduce the number of traffic accidents along North Broad. The first phase of the project included the widening of the road from the Village Green to Skyline Drive and also included the installation of a left turning lane. Curbs, sidewalks and street lights also were added. Foust Construction Inc. of Youngstown completed the project at the cost of $700,000. About $550,000 was paid for by the Ohio Public Works Commission."It's benefited the traffic coming from the school," Warino said.Foust also was the lowest bidder for the second phase of the project, and despite some reluctance by members of council to approve the contract, an emergency ordinance was passed to begin construction July 24. The company waited until after the Canfield Fair to avoid traffic 存倉ackups. The second-phase cost is about $900,000; 60 percent of that was covered by the Ohio Public Works Commission, and the rest was covered by the city. For both phases, funds from the city's street department were used. The third phase will extend the widening of the road and add curbs, sidewalks and street lights all the way to the city's limits. This phase will cost about $1 million. The 2015 project will cost the city about $300,000. The rest of the cost will be covered by federal funds.Warino said there will be no lane closures in the second phase of the project as there were in the first phase, but there may be some traffic interruptions."While they are working, there will be traffic control," Warino said. The plan is for Foust to begin at Skyline Drive and work down to Dartmouth Drive.ODOT's Route 224 resurfacing project, which is costing about $1 million, will be done by Diorio Paving Inc. of Girard. The project also should include storm-sewer replacement. Warino said ODOT's project will be a "definite benefit to the city.""There will be some interruption, but for the most part, everything should flow," Warino said. While these projects are under way, ODOT also will be working on state Route 46 in Canfield Township. The $720,000 project closed the route until November. From now until November, ODOT will be replacing a bridge between Western Reserve Road and Leffingwell Road. The detour is to take state Route 11 to 224 to 46/ U.S. Route 62. This is the beginning of the project to replace a culvert on Route 46 between Lesher and Leffingwell roads.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 Vindicator (Youngstown, Ohio) Visit Vindicator (Youngstown, Ohio) at .vindy.com Distributed by MCT Information Services迷你倉

Abbott promises to focus on Asia if elected Australian PM
Australian opposition leader Tony Abbott shares a laugh with traders at the Sydney market at Flemington on Wednesday.儲存倉 The election campaign in Australia is at its peak ahead of Saturday’s poll.By AGENCIES in Brisbane and Sydney, Australia Only after our regional and trading partners have been suitably attended to would I make the traditional trips to Washington and London.”TONY ABBOTT CONSERVATIVE COALITION CANDIDATE IN THE AUSTRALIAN ELECTION Australian election front- runner Tony Abbott vowed on Wednesday that Asia will be his main foreign policy focus if he assumes oi ce, as an inl u- ential media group turned on incumbent Prime Minister Kevin Rudd. The conservative Abbott, whose diplomatic credentials came under i re this week at er he said the Syria conl ict was “baddies versus baddies”, is on track to win Saturday’s poll. His first travel priorities would be Indonesia, China, Japan and South Korea, he said in an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, the l agship paper of Fairfax Media whose chairman on Wednes- day declared his support for the conservative.“Only at er our regional and trading partners have been suit- ably attended to would I make the traditional trips to Washing- ton and London,” Abbott said, adding, “in the end your focus has got to be on the relationships that need the most attention.“Decisions which impact our national interests will be made in Jakarta, in Beijing, in Tokyo, in Seoul, as much as they will be made in Washington.“h ere’s a sense in which we kind of know what the decisions in Washington or London will be. We can be less certain about decisions that might be made in Jakarta and Beijing.”Abbott said his first trip would be to Indonesia, where most boats bringing asylum- seekers to Australia — a key election issue — originate.“By virtue of its size, proxim- ity, its developing power, overall it’s the most important country to Australia,” he said.Rudd, a former for迷你倉價錢ign min- ister, said the simplistic language trivialized the matter and dem- onstrated “that he is not compe- tent and not comfortable with national security and foreign policy”. Doubts raised over accusation aunt blinded 6-year-old boy
By HOU LIQIANG in Qiaojiazhuang, Shanxi and XU WEI in Beijing Police have identii ed a fam- ily member as the key suspect in a shocking case in which the eyes of a 6-year-old boy were gouged out.存倉However, he boy’s parents and neighbors are skeptical of the accusation.Zhang Huiying, 41, the boy’saunt, was identii ed by police as the suspect at er DNA test- ing showed the victim’s blood was found on her clothes, police in the city of Linfen said late on Tuesday.h e boy, Guo Bin, was lured by an unknown woman into a i eld near his home in Fenxi county, Linfen, on the evening of Aug 24, and was found later with both eyes missing.h e case shocked the nation for its cruelty, and the boy’squestion at er he was taken to hospital, “Why does the sky remain dark?” touched the hearts of many people.Police later found the boy’seyes and said they had exclud- ed the possibility of organ traf- i cking, and put up a reward of 100,000 yuan ($16,300) for clues leading to the capture of the suspect.Zhang, who worked at a chicken farm, is reported to have committed suicide by jumping into a well in her yard on Friday. However, the police identi- i cation of Zhang as the sus- pect was a surprise to many, including her neighbors and the boy’s father, and they ques- tion both the aunt’s motive and the boy’s failure to identify her as the attacker.Guo Zhiping, the boy’sRussianfather, said the police never told him the result of the inves- tigation, and he only found out about it from media reports.“It came as a shock. I still don’t believe it,” he said on Wednesday. He also denied media reports that his family con- l icted with his brother’s fam- ily over providing support to their paralyzed father, saying the two families maintained “OK” relations. He also insisted the boy would have identified his aunt if she had committed the crime. As of Wednesday, the police in Linfen were yet to release more details about the case, including Zhang’s possible motive.A ‘good wife’The result of the police investigation also shocked neighbors who knew Zhang well and recalled her as kind and quiet.Liu Lanzhi, a 58-year-old neighbor, said Zhang was a “very good wife” and very timid.“I will never believe this was done by her. I don’t believe it, 100 percent,” she said.Liu said she never heard of any conl ict between the two families and said the aunt even tried a superstitious ritual to bring back the boy’s soul after the attack. Some locals believe a person’s soul is lost when they are scared by such extreme circumstances. However, the police inves- tigation and the arrival of reporters terrii ed her, which Liu said reflected her timid nature.“She could be scared by just the sound of a cup dropping,”she said.h e two families had a very good relationship with each other, according to a neighbor, who lived less than 100 meters away from Zhang Huiying’shome, and who is also sur- named Zhang but no relation to her.“They often took the veg- etables they grew to the boy’sfamily. If they harbored any dislike for each other, I don’tthink that would happen,” the 38-year-old man said.Zhang Huiying was bit- ten by a snake before she was married and the injury trau- matized her, he said. “She was very timid. h e sound of thun- der could keep her awake all night,” the neighbor said. She even fainted six years ago when hearing that one of Guo Bin’s elder sisters died at er f迷你倉lling into a well.“Even if she had the inten- tion, was she physically capa- ble of committing the brutal act? I highly doubt that,” he said.“She was easygoing and nev- er argued with her husband or others. She was dei nitely a good wife,” said Guo Liangbao, a 63-year-old neighbor.Life in the dark “This is Guangtouqiang.h is is a big bear. h is is Ultra- man…” muttered Guo Bin, who is receiving treatment at a hospital in Taiyuan, the capital of Shanxi, as he tried to identi- fy toys donated to him by vol- unteers on Tuesday night. He guessed correctly each time. While playing with his new toys, he also occasionally lis- tened to stories played on a tape recorder or on toys with a broadcast function.h is is how the 6-year-old boy occupies himself 10 days at er the vicious attack, resting in hospital on an intravenous drip and having eye drops applied every two hours.Piled up in the corner of the ward are l owers, fruit, snacks and other git s.Guo Bin, however, does not know what is happening out- side his hospital ward, apart from a few sounds, such as knocks on his door.He has had visitors from all around Shanxi and even from Hebei, Shandong, Hubei and other provinces far from Tai- yuan. However, he cannot bear any long separation from his mother.“Mum! Mum!” he calls if she leaves his side for long.So many people have visited that the hospital has arranged security guards on duty 24 hours a day to prevent too many people from entering and to ensure a quiet environ- ment for the patient. Some visitors simply come, hand over what they call a “little something” and leave without saying who they are.On a chair by the door is a notebook Guo Bin’s parents are using to keep a record of the names of donors and the amount of their donations.Guo Zhiping, the father, said the family has received 1 mil- lion yuan in donations since the attack became public.Guo Bin has still not been told that he has permanently lost his eyesight.“When can I go to school?”he asked, and occasionally, “Why can’t I see now?”His uncle, Wang Yuji, some- times joked with the boy, say- ing, “Once you can see, you will see your mother. And your mother will probably blame you and spank you.”He added that the family is more concerned about the psychological scars the child may suf er than the physical ones.Late on Wednesday, doc- tors told China News Ser- vice that Guo Bin has recov- ered well and is already i t enough to be discharged from the hospital. Implant- ing artificial eyes could be done as early as a month from now, they said.h e family decided to accept surgery to implant artificial eyes at er they were visited by a team of three Hong Kong experts on Sunday, who said there is a possibility Guo Bin could regain some sense of light by implanting electronic ocular prostheses at a hospi- tal in Hong Kong, his mother, Wang Wenl i , said. However, they have yet to decide where to have the sur- gery.“He is still quite young. If he was born without eyesight, that might not be too cruel for him. But he could see before and now, suddenly, he can’tsee. h at could be unbearable for him, or even for us adults,”said Wang. “We will do any- thing and go anywhere so long as he can gain a little sense of light in his life.”Contact the writers at houliqiang@chinadaily.com.cn and xuwei@chinadaily.com.cn Cheng Hong and Sun Ruish- eng in Taiyuan contributed to this story.自存倉

Reber talks new program aimed at improving health care while lowering cost
Source: The Lima News, OhioSept.儲存 05--LIMA -- As the man who used to run St. Rita's Medical Center, Jim Reber doesn't have to be told the healthcare system has some problems to work through. After he retired more than a year ago, the fire still burns inside for Reber with a strong desire to keep working -- not the long hours heading a hospital, but in a way he could use his more than 40 years of knowledge while working to improve the healthcare industry.Like so many things in life, good timing is everything and, with Reber, his retirement could not have come at a better time. Four healthcare organizations, including St. Rita's parent company, Catholic Health Partners, were kicking around ideas to improve the delivery of healthcare while controlling cost.Out of that, Health Innovations Ohio was born and Reber just so happened to be available to accept the job as chief executive officer. It's a job he's excited to talk about as is evident by the smile on his face as he discusses his plans."We have a lot of freedoms to pursue new ideas and good ideas," Reber said.Reber's office is inside St. Rita's although there are 24 hospitals across the state through the four organizations involved that account for 22 percent of the healthcare in the state. And HIO will be licensed to operate in 66 of Ohio's 88 counties.Health Innovations Ohio was created through a collaboration with four healthcare organizations in the state, Catholic Health Partners in Cincinnati, Mount Carmel Health System in Columbus; Summa Health System in Akron and University Hospitals in Cleveland.Health Innovations Ohio is focusing its work in three areas: Medicare Advantage, which is an optional insurance coverage for people covered by Medicare, the federal insurance program mostly for people 65 years of age and older. The second part deals with Medicaid managed care which is finding ways to better serve people in that program. For example, some people use the emergency room for reasons they re新蒲崗迷你倉lly should go to a primary care doctor. The programs also will look at ways to serve the total needs of patients including adding health coaches to make sure people are focused on healthy living so they don't need medical care, he said.Third is population health management working with the 100,000-plus employees in the four organizations to form a comprehensive health and wellness system for employees and their dependents, Reber said. The plan will work to promote a healthy lifestyle through weight management and other programs, for example, that manage diseases such as diabetes, Reber said."The goal is to use our employees as a learning lab to make healthier employees and lower medical care cost," Reber said.HIO works in teams that strive to create innovative solutions to problems while adopting the best practices, Reber said."The overall goal is to provide a better model of healthcare delivery that delivers better healthcare and utilizes fewer resources," Reber said. One big task HIO is working on is to get healthcare providers, including pharmacies on the same page, electronically, so any of them can look up a patient's record on a computer and have a thorough understanding of the patient's history and treatment plan, Reber said.In the past, the coordination, although sounds logical and simple, often was lost in the red tape that is part of the system. Medicine has become so specialized with so many advancements specialist concentrated in their area of expertise without sharing or having a viable way to share information, he said.HIO was not formed as a result of the Affordable Healthcare Act which some refer to as Obamacare but it will help address the cost of healthcare the act targets, Reber said."If the cost of healthcare challenges were simple it would have been solved a long time ago," Reber said.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Lima News (Lima, Ohio) Visit The Lima News (Lima, Ohio) at .limaohio.com Distributed by MCT Information Servicesmini storage

Scheme targets triads in building trade
RenoSafe programme launched amid rising criminal involvement in renovation workAs the age of Hong Kong’s buildings creeps up and renovations are increasingly required, opportunities for criminals to cash in on the construction trade are growing, according to police.儲存But yesterday a new initiative, named the RenoSafe scheme, was launched to fight back against crime in the trade.“The potential gains from [building renovation projects] are huge and criminals are not going to ignore the opportunity to make money,” said Matthew Kwok Ho-fai, a police chief superintendent in the force’s Organised Crime and Triad Bureau.Over the next couple of years, more than 500 ageing buildings are expected to undergo renovations annually. The police have said that crimes related to building revamps are on the rise, with 22 cases recorded in the year to August – as many as were logged for all of last year.Such crimes often involve the use of threats such as criminal damage, intimidation and even arson to force owners to award renovation contracts to businesses that may involve triads.Corruption is also a problem, manifest in practices such as rigging bids for renovation contracts and bribing members of building owners’ corporations. Project consultants and contractors are bribed in exchange for turning a blind eye to the use of substandard building materials.Crimi新蒲崗迷你倉al groups can make illicit earnings running into the millions of dollars each time they win a renovation contract whose price has been inflated by double or three times the estimate of an independent project consultant. The RenoSafe scheme aims to curb these practices by providing building owners planning renovations with advice from government departments and operational support from the police. It offers regular workshops and seminars on preventing renovation-related crimes – jointly organised by the police, the Urban Renewal Authority (URA) and the Hong Kong Housing Society – for owners of buildings in need of repair. The Independent Commission Against Corruption, the Buildings Department and the Home Affairs Department will also participate in the scheme. The scheme has no single hotline for one-stop service, but the government departments involved in it will refer requests to relevant parties when they receive calls for assistance.A police officer will also be assigned to each case once a building’s owners have joined the RenoSafe scheme.Meanwhile, the URA yesterday said it was in talks with the Housing Society to improve renovation tendering arrangements by reducing the risk of information about owners and contract bidders being leaked to potentially threatening outside parties. Details of the new bidding arrangements will be announced soon.mini storage

PTI airport travelers will have access to expedited screening
Source: Winston-Salem Journal, N.儲存倉C.Sept. 05--Passengers flying out of Piedmont Triad International Airport will have access to an expedited screening program by the end of the year, the Transportation Security Administration said Wednesday. The agency will provide pre-check services at select screening lanes. The service already is operating in 40 airports nationwide. The program allows pre-approved travelers to leave on their shoes and light outerwear and belt, as well as keep their laptop in its case and their "3-1-1" compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on. If a passenger is eligible for expedited screening, an indicator will be embedded in the barcode of the boarding pass so they can be referred to a pre-check lane. The agency said more than 15 million passengers have used the service since it was launched in October 2011.PTI offers 48 nonstop flights to 14 airports."This is a program that will make it much easier for our frequent travelers to navigate the security checkpoints, and adds to the simple and convenient experience of flying from PTI," said Stephanie Freeman, the airport's marketing and customer relations manager. The service also is being launched by year's end at Charlotte Douglas and Raleigh-Durham international airports, as well as an additional 60 airports nationally. The agency said it will add more pre-check lanes at t迷你倉價錢e existing 40 airports."As TSA continues to move away from a one-size-fits-all approach to transportation security, we are looking for more opportunities to provide the most effective security in the most efficient way possible," John Pistole, the TSA's administrator, said in a statement.Passengers eligible for the program include U.S. citizens of frequent traveler programs recommended or invited by participating airlines. Also qualified are citizens who are members of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection trusted traveler program and Canadian citizens who are members of Customs' Nexus program. The agency plans to launch a new application program later this year.Participating airlines are Alaska, American, Delta, Hawaiian, United, US Airways and Virgin America. JetBlue and Southwest are expected to begin participating when operationally ready. The agency cautioned that it will continues to use random and unpredictable security measures throughout airports, and that no individual will be guaranteed expedited screening.Travelers can go to .TSA.gov/TSA-Precheck for information on locations and hours of active pre-check lanes.rcraver@wsjournal.com(336) 727-7376Copyright: ___ (c)2013 Winston-Salem Journal (Winston Salem, N.C.) ESPNU seeking to air Oct. 18 Lobo Howl
Source: Albuquerque Journal, N.存倉M.Sept. 04--Craig Neal wanted more exposure for the Lobos men's basketball program in his first year as head coach. Now, it looks like the Lobos will be howling on national television in October. While no binding agreement has been finalized, the Journal has learned ESPNU is working out a deal to broadcast live from the Pit the University of New Mexico basketball team's Oct. 18 Lobo Howl as part of its college basketball preseason coverage. The Lobo Howl, the annual public practice event that often features a dunk contest, 3-point contest and light scrimmage held in the Pit for both the men's and women's basketball teams, is expected to have live coverage on ESPNU and ESPN3.For several seasons ESPNU has sent broadcast crews to the annual preseason workouts of several Top 25 programs for live coverage. Last year ESPNU had coverage from seven programs, including the Big Blue Madness event of then defending national champion Kentucky Wildcats, who are this season's preseason favorites. The Wildcats are expected to be among the teams covered this season by ESPNU.Whether the Lobo Howl event will be free to the public as it has been in the past, when it was often held around Halloween, is unclear.NEWCOMERS: The latest additions to the Lobos basketball team were working out in full force Tuesday during NCAA-allowed individual instruction periods.Teams are not allowed until later this month to start full team practices, but can do so in small groups broken up by positions.Junior college transfer guard Deshawn Delaney and 7-foot-1 freshman center Obij Aget, both of whom arrived in Albuquerque the week prior to classes starting at UNM, are both working out with the Lobos.Delaney spent his summer on a crash course to finish classes at Vincennes Junior College in Indiana. He passed all those classes and is cleared to play for UNM.Aget, originally from the Sudan, who sat last year out with an ACL tear before enrolling in college after prep school in Indiana, is also a full participant with the Lobos now that the NCAA Clearinghouse last week cleared him to play. He has a large brace on his right leg, but ran and jumped with no hesitation at Tuesday's workouts.BAIRSTOW BACK: After an offseason of impressi迷你倉e play in international events for his native Australia, senior Cameron Bairstow is back with his team but wasn't a full participant in drills with his fellow post players Tuesday. That is because the 6-foot-9 power forward is still recovering from a minor hand surgery from Aug. 19 that kept him in his home country a few days longer than anticipated. As it turns out, Bairstow played all last season and throughout the summer with some minor discomfort in his left hand. The surgery, which isn't expected to cut into any playing time this season, was to relieve some pressure caused by extra tissue in the hand pressing against some nerves, according to UNM Trainer Nate Burney.Neal said Bairstow could be participating fully in drills if it were during the season, but after his full load of work throughout the summer there is no rush to get him back now.FIERY COACH: Neal was a little bit hands off during individual instruction, letting assistant coaches lead the drills, but did hop up and get involved when he saw something that he didn't like. When one player wasn't exactly going full speed during a shooting drill, Neal reminded everyone who was in charge what he expects from his players."I'm not going to coach effort," Neal barked. "We've got 13 guys (on scholarship) -- 14 with Chris. If you don't give effort, the next guy will. I will not coach effort this year."CULLEN NEAL: Cullen Neal, Craig Neal's son and UNM's incoming freshman guard who had an emergency appendectomy on the team's August trip to Australia, was back on the court Tuesday in a practice uniform for the first time since that surgery. The 6-foot-4 Eldorado High graduate, who dropped to 158 pounds from about 180 after his 11 days in a Sydney, Australia, hospital, said Tuesday he is back to about 170 pounds. The younger Neal worked out on his own Tuesday while fellow guards were going through drills together on the court. It is unclear when Cullen Neal will be allowed to return to full contact drills with his teammates. Shuttle buses will take patrons to arts in the dark
Source: The Arizona Daily Star, TucsonSept.存倉 05--Coordinators of the annual Glow arts festival are celebrating the colorful and creative event's 10th anniversary by fixing one of its biggest headaches: parking.Rather than have people park up and down West Oracle Ranch Road, the tight stretch that runs around the Triangle L Ranch where the event is held, patrons will now be asked to pull into a three-acre dirt lot off of West American Avenue, leading into the Oracle business district and less than a mile from the festivities. Two 28-seat buses will be on hand to shuttle people to and from the ranch entrance. The lot should easily accommodate the 1,000 or so visitors expected to attend each night, according to Triangle L owner Sharon Holnback."We want people to be safe," she said. "It has been our biggest hurdle. It became apparent last year, because of the amount of people attending, that we needed to make changes."Once on ranch grounds, Glow-goers will get to experience an array of artistic expression, each feature meant to entice and entertain under the迷你倉light of the full moon.Brightly colored installations, created by visual artists from all over Southern Arizona, will sit along an expanded sculpture path, one of the cornerstones of Glow, as well as a newly added shrine garden."We've been using car hoods, creating shrines with metal and glass," Holnback said. "The ranch artists have been taking found objects and combining them to make some interesting pieces."Live performances will include appearances from fire spinners, local music acts Hank Topless and Hey Bucko, and Circus Amperean, a Tucson-based group that specializes in working with Tesla coils and electricity.Holnback said it is the creative spirit of Southern Arizona's artistic community, not the parking, that inspires her to throw Glow year after year."When you talk to the artists and they are doing all these amazing things," she said. "That is when things get exciting."Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Arizona Daily Star (Tucson, Ariz.) If Leung is forced to quit, what then
People should be careful what they wish for.迷你倉 NeoDemocrats lawmaker Gary Fan Kwok-wai and hundreds of people signed an advert that ran in newspapers in Hong Kong and Taiwan calling on Chief Executive Leung Chun-ying to resign. They also warned Taiwan against “mainlandisation” as the island plans to boost cross-strait tourism. What’s easier to demand? If you don’t like something, throw it away. That’s how children behave, because they care nothing about the consequences and only want to vent their anger and frustration. Many of us still remember similar calls for Tung Chee-hwa to quit. And when he did, people cheered. Well, we ended up with Donald Tsang Yam-kuen, who enjoyed a long honeymoon and high popularity ratings, at least initially. Look where he is now!Tsang was arguably worse than Tung, who at least correctly identified key problems confronting Hong Kong: an out-of-date education system, an unsustainable public health system, an out-of-control property market, an ageing population, eroding competitiveness. What he lacked was the ability to develop and execute plans that could addres自存倉 these problems. Tsang, the consummate civil servant, just swept them under the carpet. As a result, we wasted almost a decade.People are understandably angry because of the many problems confronting Hong Kong today and threatening its future. But many, if not most of these problems, were already there before Leung took office, and will remain whoever replaces him. The “brainwashing” national and moral education? It started with Tung and worked out under Tsang. Mainlandisation or expanding mainland tourism? It was Tung’s and Tsang’s baby.Under the current system, whoever replaces Leung would still be perceived as a Beijing lackey, and the pan-democrats could repeat their whole routine of demonising, obstructing and destroying the new guy. How does that help Hong Kong? Far more responsible would be to press Leung to come up with a viable constitutional reform blueprint acceptable to both sides. But I suspect some of our young radicals are not interested in anything so constructive. They would rather see a government destroyed or in disarray. And if that means taking Hong Kong down, so what!迷你倉新蒲崗

Penn scientist studies agonizing death by nerve gas
Source: The Philadelphia InquirerSept.迷你倉新蒲崗 04--Within seconds, your muscles become paralyzed, so you cannot breathe. Then come intense vomiting and likely seizures. The heart stops beating. As the world debates its response to the alleged nerve-gas attacks in Syria, one thing is clear:It is an awful way to go.One person who knows this better than most is Paul H. Axelsen, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine. In 1993, while on sabbatical at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, Axelsen helped figure out how a key enzyme plays a role in communication between certain kinds of nerve cells -- the very process that sarin gas interferes with so catastrophically.Among the nerve cells affected by sarin are those that control our muscles. Inhaling the gas causes the nerve pathway to be switched on permanently, flooding the system with noise so that communication between nerve cells is impossible."It's almost a total-body malfunction," Axelsen said.He studied how the enzyme works, in collaboration with Weizmann scholars who had previously determined the enzyme's structure. These researchers included Israel Silman and Joel L. Sussman, a Philadelphia native who once worked at Fox Chase Cancer Center. The scholars did not specifically study sarin gas, developed by a German chemical company in the mid-1930s. Instead, theirs was a more fundamental study of how the enzyme, called acetylcholinesterase, worked in healthy people.Still, the connection to nerve gas was on their minds, Sussman recalled in an interview Tuesday. His and Silman's original work on the enzyme's structure was published in 1991, soon after the end of the first Gulf War. Some of the research funding came from the U.S. Department of Defense, which sought information on how it could better protect soldiers in a gas attack, Sussman said. The research also helped explain the potential for a class of drugs called cholinesterase inhibitors, which were then in development. These medicines, such as Aricept, can help ease the symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, though their impact is modest. In a 1994 interview with the New York Times, Sussman recalled the moment that he and colleagues made their initial discovery, using a technique called protein crystallography. It was 3 a.m., and on a computer screen, they had successfully pieced together the 4,000 or so atoms迷你倉出租that make up one molecule of the enzyme."I can only compare it to first seeing a new continent," Sussman said at the time. Then Sussman, who had met Axelsen while visiting the Mayo Clinic, invited him to come to Israel to help determine how the enzyme did its job. They knew the key to healthy communication between the nerve cells was a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. In order for a signal to be transmitted, acetylcholine is released by one nerve cell and is taken up by the next. The research team determined how the signaling chemical was broken down by the enzyme so that another signal could be sent."You need to stop the signal so that another signal can come," Axelsen said. "You do not under any circumstances want a signal to be permanent. These nerve gases permanently knock out the enzyme so that our nerve signals do not stop."The Alzheimer's drugs work in a much more limited fashion. They also interfere with the enzyme's activity, but the effect is much weaker and also temporary -- merely allowing a bit more time for a signal to be completed before the next one is sent.Sarin, on the other hand, locks onto the enzyme and does not let go. It is in a class of compounds called organophosphates, which includes some pesticides. For a person exposed to sarin, the situation is bleak. One antidote is a compound called atropine, which helps to dislodge acetylcholine from nerve-cell receptors so they can once again receive a signal, Axelsen said.Silman, of the Weizmann Institute, said Israeli citizens are given kits with autoinjectors that contain atropine and two other ingredients: anticonvulsant medicine and a reagent that can reactivate the key enzyme. These can be administered in advance, if there is warning of an attack.Better antidotes and pretreatments are under development at the institute, Silman and Sussman said.Atropine and the other current treatments are at best a partial solution, and only if administered immediately, Axelsen said."The reason it's used as a warfare agent is such small amounts go a long way," Axelsen said. "By the time you realize what's happening to you, you don't even have the presence of mind to get an antidote."Contact Tom Avril at 215-854-2430 or tavril@phillynews.com.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Philadelphia Inquirer Visit The Philadelphia Inquirer at .philly.com Distributed by MCT Information Services迷你倉

PayPal eyes more cross-border sales
PayPal, the world’s leading online-payments service provider, expects to help Hong Kong and mainland merchants generate new business opportunities from cross-border trade by providing them with its new “Seller Protection” policy from next month.迷你倉“From October 11, we’re going to protect merchants from unauthorised transactions and from items not being received by buyers,” James Mirfin, PayPal’s manager for Hong Kong, Korea and Taiwan, said yesterday.Mirfin said many businesses selling on the web were forced to dedicate a huge amount of time and money to tackling fraudulent transactions.Californian-based PayPal, which has about 1 million online merchant users across the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan, said it was adding the additional layer of security at no extra cost to sellers. They would not need to subscribe and there would be no cap on the amount of goods covered against fraud by PayPal buyers in any country.“We want Hong Kong and mainland merchants to grow by helping them lower the risk associated with entering new markets,” Mirfin said.Seller Protection will be available next month to PayPal merchants in Australia, New Zealand,自存倉mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam. The policy was initially launched in North America more than a decade ago and then in Europe.Alipay, the most widely used online-payment platform on the mainland, has implemented its own version of seller protection since 2004.Digital World International, a Hong Kong-based seller of cameras on eBay and its own websites for more than four years, expects the new PayPal policy will help drive its growth. Chief executive Cornel Ung said: “For a long time we’ve been eyeing opportunities for expansion in different countries, but it always seemed so risky due to the high fraud rates in certain markets.”Data from PayPal, which has 132 million active accounts in 193 markets and 25 currencies, shows that the five fastest-growing export markets for Hong Kong online merchants in the past 12 months were the Philippines, Argentina, South Korea, Sweden and Russia. The top categories in cross-border trade last year for those merchants included electronics and telecommunications; toys and hobbies, and clothing, accessories and shoes.迷你倉新蒲崗

Such turn-key logistics solutions are a boon for land-scarce countries like Singapore where land and labor costs run high," said Oscar de Bok, CEO, South and South East Asia, DHL Supply Chain. "DHL has pioneered the implementation of AutoStore(R) in Asia for the semiconductor industry, and it can be similarly applied to a broad range of industries, such as the life sciences and engineering sectors, fashion and luxury goods.""The upgrade to TI's Product Distribution Center has significantly increased the capacity of the facility. Within a space that previously stored 500 million semiconductor units, we will ramp up to two billion units this year," said Larry Tan, President, Texas Instruments Asia. "As a leader in analog and embedded processing semiconductor technologies, TI develops leading-edge products that provide greater power efficiency, enable more features, enhance performance and deliver more value to our customers. The new automation solution delivers the same level of innovation we promise to deliver to our customers every day."For over 10 years, TI, one of the world's largest semi-conductor companies, has made Singapore its major distribution base for Asia Pacific. With significant volume growth over the past few years, TI was swiftly outgrowing its PDC in Changi. DHL Supply Chain, TI's logistics partner, evaluated the logistics requirements and recommended Swisslog to implement AutoStore(R) inventory management system -- a solution that allows optimal use of existing space and increased productivity through automation."This investment in state-of-the-art warehousing solutions exemplifies how the logistics industry in Singapore can achieve growth and competitiveness through operational excellence and productivity gains. I would like to commend TI, DHL & Swisslog for their strong collaboration in coming up with innovative solutions to enhance competitiveness and global distribution capabilities in Singapore," said Quek Swee Kuan, Deputy Managing Director, Singapore Economic Development Board.Advanced Automated Warehousing System -- A boon for land-scarce SingaporeSpanning 7,500 square meters of DHL Supply Chain's 20,000 square meters facility, the US$10 million (SGD$12.8 million) upgrade features the advanced AutoStore(R) system implemented by Swisslog that comprise of a massive grid measuring 65m x 18m x 5.4m. A key space-saving aspect of AutoStore(R) is that the system eliminates th迷你倉 need for the aisles that are required between shelves in a typical warehouse for movement of people and products (refer to Annex A). Two billion semiconductor chips may be stored in the 63,000 bins stacked within the grid, which is 108 rows wide, 38 rows deep and spans the height of 16 bins.Thirty-six robots ply the top of the grid to both store and extract products within the grid, based on the orders placed through the warehouse management software known as the AutoStore(R) Control System (ACS). The ACS acts as the nerve center by controlling the entire inventory flow in and out of the AutoStore(R) grid. Every item within the grid is electronically tagged, providing full visibility of the inventory at any one time. Backend information built into the system allows the robots to pick inventory based on the specific requirements of TI's customers -- for example, retrieving items manufactured within a specific date range.More than 800 meters of Swisslog light goods conveyor system connect the AutoStore(R) grid to receiving and shipping areas, allowing for a swift flow of inbound and outbound goods within the PDC, which is fully operated by DHL Supply Chain. Products arrive from 20 inbound countries and orders are consolidated and shipped to 54 outbound countries, complete with country-specific labeling created at the facility in Singapore."There is no bigger innovation in the material handling industry than a solution that increases both storage capacity and productivity. This is particularly true in Singapore where space and operating costs come at a premium. Automation systems like AutoStore(R) and light good conveyor solution are a natural progression for companies that are looking to boost their operation's productivity. With AutoStore(R) and our comprehensive solution portfolio, we will be even closer to our Asian customers to realize the right automation level for them," said Koh Seng Teck, Head of Southeast Asia, Swisslog.- End -About the Partnership between Texas Instruments, DHL and SwisslogUnder the partnership, Texas Instruments' inventory is stored and managed by DHL Supply Chain, which provides full-service logistics support including receiving, storing, shipping, picking, and shipment preparation.
