Source: Vindicator, Youngstown, OhioSept.文件倉 05--CANFIELD -- Canfield motorists will have to deal with some possible traffic delays with multiple new road projects beginning at the same time.Phase two of the North Broad Street safety upgrade will begin Monday, and includes the widening of North Broad Street from Skyline Drive up to Dartmouth Drive, adding a common left turn lane, curbing, sidewalks and street lamps.Already started is an Ohio Department of Transportation road-resurfacing project on U.S. Route 224 from the Village Green to Talsman Drive.Both projects should be complete by late October.The North Broad Street safety upgrade "has been the largest undertaking in the last three or four years," said Joe Warino, Canfield city manager.One benefit to motorists in the area will be the opening of the Interstate 680 northbound ramp, to occur Friday or sometime over the weekend, according to ODOT.The North Broad Street safety upgrade began as a way to reduce the number of traffic accidents along North Broad. The first phase of the project included the widening of the road from the Village Green to Skyline Drive and also included the installation of a left turning lane. Curbs, sidewalks and street lights also were added. Foust Construction Inc. of Youngstown completed the project at the cost of $700,000. About $550,000 was paid for by the Ohio Public Works Commission."It's benefited the traffic coming from the school," Warino said.Foust also was the lowest bidder for the second phase of the project, and despite some reluctance by members of council to approve the contract, an emergency ordinance was passed to begin construction July 24. The company waited until after the Canfield Fair to avoid traffic 存倉ackups. The second-phase cost is about $900,000; 60 percent of that was covered by the Ohio Public Works Commission, and the rest was covered by the city.For both phases, funds from the city's street department were used.The third phase will extend the widening of the road and add curbs, sidewalks and street lights all the way to the city's limits. This phase will cost about $1 million. The 2015 project will cost the city about $300,000. The rest of the cost will be covered by federal funds.Warino said there will be no lane closures in the second phase of the project as there were in the first phase, but there may be some traffic interruptions."While they are working, there will be traffic control," Warino said.The plan is for Foust to begin at Skyline Drive and work down to Dartmouth Drive.ODOT's Route 224 resurfacing project, which is costing about $1 million, will be done by Diorio Paving Inc. of Girard. The project also should include storm-sewer replacement. Warino said ODOT's project will be a "definite benefit to the city.""There will be some interruption, but for the most part, everything should flow," Warino said.While these projects are under way, ODOT also will be working on state Route 46 in Canfield Township.The $720,000 project closed the route until November. From now until November, ODOT will be replacing a bridge between Western Reserve Road and Leffingwell Road. The detour is to take state Route 11 to 224 to 46/ U.S. Route 62.
