Whether you want to party into the New Year or just have a quiet dinner, clubs and restaurants have the programme coveredThe dawn of a new year is always a good reason to let your hair down, and nightclubs and restaurants are pulling out all the stops to help revellers usher in 2014.儲存From special dinner menus to international DJs, they are doing all they can to cash in during Christmas and New Year.No surprise, given that the year-end holiday season is one of the biggest money-spinners for nightclubs and restaurants. Many nightspots report a spike in sales of 50 to 100 per cent during Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, compared to a regular night.Iconic club Zouk is hosting a special edition of Mambo Jambo, its famous retro- themed club night, on New Year's Eve. It is bringing back DJ Adam Low, who was part of the team that came up with the popular 1980s-themed night, to helm the decks for the first time since 2002, when he last spun tracks for Mambo night.Good thing Zouk and other major dance clubs such as The Butter Factory are not raising cover charges for their festive nights, unlike their F&B counterparts.A check by SundayLife! last month found that many restaurants plan to raise the prices of their festive menus by 5 to 10 per cent compared to last year. They attribute this to the higher costs of labour and ingredients, as well as adjustment for inflation. But Mr Woo Tsung Chwen, 34, chief operations officer of The Butter Factory, says "there is no reason" to raise its current New Year's Eve cover charge of $30.New Year's Eve cover charges have not gone up either at Mink in Pan Pacific Singapore ($45) and Fenix Room in Clarke Quay ($50).Mr Phillip Poon, 36, a director of Massive Collective which manages both nightspots, says this is because sales at the clubs are driven mainly by partygoers who book tables and spend by the bottle. But if you want to count down to the new year in comfort - with a sofa and a table - be prepared to fork out more. Demand from eager partygoers has driven up the minimum cost to book a table for about 10 people from $1,500 to $2,000 at Fenix, and from $1,500 to $2,500 at Mink.Bookings at both clubs have hit 50 per cent.Restaurant-bars are also amping up their post-dinner entertainment to keep diners happy past midnight.Tapas-style restaurant Bacchanalia in Coleman Street is expecting a 200-strong turnout for its New Year's Eve bash, where a DJ will entertain guests as they enjoy a special five-course meal.Over at The White Rabbit in Dempsey, American disco-house DJ Viceroy will helm the decks as diners tuck into a four-course dinner created by head chef Benjamin Tan.Life!Weekend rounds up the best party venues in town to usher in the new year, with options for every budget.melk@sph.com.sgAdditional reporting by Lydia VaskoCLUB PARTIESPARTY UNDER $50SCARLET CITY'S NEW YEAR'S EVE PARTYWhat: Scarlet City is one of four NTUC nightclubs (including Union Square, Jest D' Place and Happy Days) throwing a New Year's Eve party.
