Officers received a call at 2:33 a.m. Saturday morning and found Thurmond had driven the bus across runways to the McKenzie Terminal. Airport personnel and Thurmond engaged in a brief struggle before police arrived, according to the police reports.He is being charged with assault, criminal trespass and theft between $20,000 and $100,000.Officials determined that Thurmond entered the airport in his personal vehicle through a pedestrian gate on the General Aviation Terminal. Texas A&M University Police spokesman Lt. Allan Baron said the keys were likely left in the bus, and that was how Thurmond was able to drive it. Baron said there were no signs of forced entry on the pedestrian gate.Surveillance videos show Thurmond attempted to enter a jet bridge of an American Eagle airplane, according to po文件倉ice. The security seal on the door was found to be broken. Baron said when a plane lands for an extended period of time, a seal is placed on the doors so officials can know if anyone has entered it.The Transportation Security Administration and American Airlines representatives were notified. The TSA and American inspected the plane and did not find any evidence that it had been tampered with, Baron said.The flight was scheduled to depart Easterwood for the Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport at 7:55 a.m., but was delayed about three hours for inspection.Baron said the case is under investigation and that it is unclear why Thurmond attempted to enter the jet or what he was doing with the passenger bus.The theft charge is a state jail felony punishable by 180 days to two years in jail and up to a $10,000 fine. Thurmond was also charged with criminal trespass, a misdemeanor.
