Source: Portland Press Herald, MaineSept.迷你倉 20--PORTLAND -- The AMC network's hit drama "Breaking Bad" has won the attention and adoration of critics and won a myriad of awards for its writing and acting -- but scholarly analysis?If anyone had a doubt about the complexity of characters such as chemistry-teacher-turned-meth-kingpin Walter White, his assistant Jesse Pinkman or drug lord Gustavo Fring, a University of Southern Maine professor has compiled a book of essays tracing the underlying motives that make their fictional world tick.David Pierson's book, "Breaking Bad: Critical Essays on the Context, Politics, Style and Reception of the Television Series," published by Lexington Books, is due out in November, the university said Friday.The compendium will explore such high-brow topics as "neoliberalism and its discourses; our cultural obsession with the economies of t儲存倉me and their manipulation; and the assumptions underlying White's criminal alias Heisenberg," the university wrote in an announcement of the book.The book will also look at topics closer to the surface, such as representations of masculinity, the depiction of Latinos in America, and impairment and disability, in addition to "Breaking Bad's" cinematic style and use of sound, music and setting.Pierson, who has a Ph.D. in mass communication, studies and writes about modern television programming.
