Source: Tulsa World, Okla.文件倉Nov. 07--Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert need to clear off some more shelf space in their Oklahoma home. The country music power couple added another Country Music Association Award trophy to their collection, winning male and female vocalist of the year for the fourth year in a row Wednesday night."I really didn't think this was going to happen this year," Lambert said before thanking each of her fellow nominees.Shelton also got the award for Album of the Year for "Based on a True Story ..." That brought the native Oklahoman's CMA Award total to eight, passing his wife's seven and on par with country legends like Ronnie Milsap, Loretta Lynn and Alison Krauss.Shelton and Lambert were the two big winners from the state this year. Native Oklahoman Carrie Underwood hosted the awards and did a fine job with Brad Paisley, but she came away with no awards. She was nominated for three. With their fourth wins for male and female vocalist of the year, Shelton and Lambert enter unique territory. The last person to win four female vocalist of the year awards was Reba McEntire between 1984 and 1987. The last to win male vocalist of the year four or more years in a row was Vince Gill between 1991 and 1995.There's a lot of Okies represented on that list. The awards were big for Lambert and Shelton, but it was the performances of all the Oklahomans that were some of the best of the night, though maybe not the showiest.Keith Urban a duet with Lambert off his latest album, "We Were Us." It was a show that the lucky folks in Oklahoma City got to see when Urban stopped there for a concert recently, but no such luck at his BOK Center show.Shelton earned a standing ovation for his heartfelt performance of "Mine Would Be You." The song highlights Shelton's vocal talent and range, something that sometimes gets overlooked with his more routine country songs. But like his performance last month at the BOK Center, Shelton was on point.Underwood's performance, however, was a bit off. Not her individual performance as much as it was the style of the show. She did a medley of songs from "Blown Away," which lost album of the year to Shelton. She was the only artist to do a medley of songs like that, and it just didn't seem to fit with the other singers, who sang one whole song.Still, Underwood's powerful voice was as it has always been: one of the best in country music right now. She solidified her position there with her performance tonight, proving that she will be a force in the business for many years to come.Other notable performances were Alan Jackson and George Strait's tribute to the late, great George Jones, who died in April. Jennifer Nettles, Rascal Flatts (with band member Oklahoman Joe Don Rooney) and Darius Rucker sang a few Kenny Rogers staples, recognizing his Lifetime Achievement Award, presented Wednesday night. My favorite performance of the night was far and away Taylor Swift's "Red" with some of the legends of country and bluegrass music. Swift was joined by Oklahoman Vince Gill, Alison Krauss, Sam Bush, Edgar Meyer and Eric Darken. Just seeing any one of those perform on their own would have been great for me, but them all together was fantastic. It says a lot about Swift and the influence she has earned over the years. That a single performance can bring together that caliber of talent is amazing to see.To recognize that talent, Swift was presented with the CMA's Pinnacle Award. It's an award given to recognize global influence of an artists and their work spreading country music to an international audience. Garth Brooks, who earned the award in 2005, is the only other recipient. There's no denying that Swift is a global music icon. And she definitely started in country music. But now? "Red" plays around with a lot of different styles, and country is harder to hear in the music. To me, the award seems a bit like a plea to keep Swift in country music. The CMAs are a celebration of country music, and though it has changed over the years, Wednesday night's performances and recognitions showed that Oklahomans are doing well in the genre right now and that country's roots are strong.Jerry Wofford 918-581-8346jerry.wofford@tulsaworld.comHere's a look at some key moments in the history of the Country Music Association Awards, which honor the best of country music.1967: The first CMA Awards were not televised. Meanwhile, the horizon award is introduced to honor new artists, and Terri Gibbs takes that honor.1991: President George H.W.
